Traffic Counts
Traffic counts are taken at:
- 3,000 sites on all types of public roads throughout New Jersey
- 1,000 sites a year over 48 hour period, every three years
- As needed to support NJDOT functions
Traffic Monitoring System (TMS) is required by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Traffic volume is classified by vehicle
types (number of axles) and weigh-in-motion (WIM) to identify commercial traffic.
